New Year Traditions

This special cake or bread is baked with a coin or charm hidden inside. The head of the household cuts the cake exactly at midnight. Whoever gets the piece with the coin will have feliz año nuevo 2022 good fortune all year. Most of us have hours of home videos, but how often do we look at them? Spend the last evening of the year looking back as your family’s great moments.

After the clock has finished striking twelve, people greet each other and toast with sparkling wine such as cava, champagne or cider. The song “Un año más” by the Spanish group Mecano, is frequently played. The event is broadcast live on major Spanish networks including Atresmedia and RTVE. Kids will love having hot cocoa, fruity soda pop, and sparkling grape juice on New Year’s Eve. You can even make other mocktails like strawberry-kiwi spritzers, cranberry sparklers, and peppermint drinks. Eating cheese fondue with bits of bread and meats will require everyone to sit and eat together. You can take turns dipping your food into the cheese and tell stories from the past year as you eat. Cheese fondue is another fun dinner idea for New Year’s Eve.

Celebration for culture-specific new years is different from the celebrations of the Gregorian new year. Gregorian new year celebration is mostly by way of parties late night and a working holiday followed by it. Most celebrations for 31 December take place in the major metropolitan cities like Kochi, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Pune, Visakhapatnam and Ahmedabad. New Year is also celebrated in other cities and towns around the country like Agra, Bhubaneswar, Coimbatore, Cuttack, Vadodara and Vijayawada. There are many shows, events, awards and parties organized all over India.

The Muslims during the year’s last Jumma prayer of mosque permanently pray a Munajat so that Allah may bless them and the coming year can be fruitful. Hindus organize a Puja so that the coming year can be fruitful for them. The Christians go to the churches for a watch night service till midnight, praying for blessing in the coming new year as it is also part of the Christmastide season observances.
